Bitplush – Smart Plush Toys

Joachim has a 6-year-old granddaughter, Mia, who lives in another city. Because they see each other so rarely, Joachim got them both a pair of Bitplush. He gave the squirrel to Mia and told her that it will always connect her to her grandpa’s bitplush. When Mia misses Joachim, just wants a cuddle, or wants to leave a little hello, she can poke, pet, or scratch her squirrel. Joachim’s bitplush responds to that-and vice versa. Both bitplushs can radiate warmth, raise their fur, wave and more. So Joachim and Mia develop their own secret language for being close. Even though they can’t see each other that often, their bitplushs always let them know they are there for each other.

Based on this vision, Bitplush is researching how smart plush animals may bridge spatial and temporal distances between loved ones without replacing other forms of social interaction.

To this end, we combine the rich craft tradition of producing plush animals with the technology space of smart textiles. In a participatory and psychologically grounded way, Bitplush explores how networked smart plush animals can supplement emotional bonds between spatially separated family members with imaginative forms of expression.

SunCurtain
That curtain harvests the energy of the sun and at the same time protects you from the negative effects of strong solar radiation. The central technology is organic photovoltaics as an shading element. The incoming sunlight is converted into electrical energy, which can be fed directly into the grid.

A disruptive idea, which I developed from the sketch to the series Zero and finally sold.

E-Suit

Imagine you could harvest energy by yourself without any extra effort. Alongside doing things which you do in general like breathing, walking, body-warming or wearing a bag. With thermo electrics, piezo´s and organic photovoltaic it wouldn’tbe just a dream.

The e-suit concept illustrates how the integration of technology into a garment could look and be used.
